The Book of Enhancing Shū is an editorial book about 10 herbal plants that Chinese women uses for beauty care, that is visualized with visual elements such as illustrations and photography. This book is a work I did for my final year project, and specified as a 20 cm x 25 cm hard covered book filled with 230 gsm papers.
The Book of Enhancing Shū introduces 10 herbal plants. They are mung bean, ginkgo, heartleaf maderavine madevine, rice, ginseng, ginger, lotus, camellia, goji, and mint. Each consists of scientific and descriptive information about the plant, and also it usage for beauty care.
On this project, I wanted to showcase the illustration element and the photography element. The illustrations were divided into 3 type of illustrations. First, is the realist illustration used for illustrating all 10 plants. Second, is the semi-realist illustration used for illustrating the additional picture. Third, is the ornament illustration used for decorative purposes. All realist and semi-realist illustrations were made digitally using Adobe Photoshop, and ornament illustrations were made digitally using Adobe Illustration.
For the photography, I used a simple and natural concept to showcase the idea of natural and healthy beauty.
At the final result, I combined the photography with the illustration so that the photography fits with the context.
